Introducing Myself: A Journey into Passionate Esthetics
Hello and welcome to my blog! Today, I want to take a moment to introduce myself and share the story behind my journey as an esthetician. With each step I've taken, my love for this industry has grown, fueled by experiences that have shaped me both personally and professionally. So, let's dive in and explore the path that led me here.
My name is Mecaila, and while I am fairly new to the esthetics industry, having graduated 2021 and opening my spa business in Colorado the following month, my connection with skin began years ago. In 2014, I started my career as a respiratory therapist, working with patients in the hospital setting. However, it was in 2017 when I joined the "Skin Champs Team" at the University of Colorado Hospital that my fascination with esthetics truly took flight.
As a Respiratory Therapist, my involvement with the Skin Champs Team aimed to tackle the rise of preventable skin damage caused by medical devices, specifically respiratory devices like nasal cannulas and endotracheal tubes. Our interdisciplinary team, consisting of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and estheticians, diligently assessed the skin of each patient twice a week, ensuring the utmost care and protection against pressure wounds caused by medical devices. Collaborating closely with the estheticians in this team sparked my interest in the art of treating and improving the skin.
What sets me apart in this industry are two fundamental qualities: my genuine passion to help others and my unwavering attention to detail. Whether it's providing professional or personal support, I always make a sincere effort to be there for the people around me. Friends and family feel comfortable seeking my guidance, knowing that I will lend a listening ear or offer words of encouragement. Moreover, I take immense pride in my attention to detail. I firmly believe in doing things right the first time, and completing each task to the very best of my ability has always been a personal mantra. This commitment to excellence was evident throughout my esthetics education, where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and received awards for perfect attendance, student of the month, top service sales, and top product sales.
Every day, my family inspires me, especially my son. I strive to teach him that it is possible to build a successful business around your passions and that it's okay to pursue your dreams even if they deviate from the norm. This inspiration keeps me going, especially during moments of self-doubt or when I question if all the effort will be worth it. I remind myself that I am his role model, setting an example that with hard work and dedication, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.
Now, if there's one piece of advice I would give to others, it would be to embrace your dreams and just go for it! Don't let fear or the notion of the "right time" hold you back. It took me a long time to realize that waiting for the perfect moment is an illusion. Life is too short to remain unhappy or unfulfilled. Chase after your dream job, even if it seems late or unconventional. Once you take that leap of faith, you'll look back and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
To me, esthetics means educating others about the importance of caring for our skin as we would any other organ in our body. It's about focusing on prevention rather than seeking corrective measures once damage becomes apparent. This industry constantly reminds me of the significance of skin health and the value that estheticians bring beyond the superficial stereotypes and impossible beauty standards often imposed by society.
There is a specific experience that solidified my career in esthetics, and it happened during
